Bridging Research Integrity & Open Science – The ROSiE Knowledge Hub

In our ongoing commitment to strengthening research integrity infrastructures, we are pleased to spotlight the Knowledge Hub of the ROSiE project, which is a rich resource that complements and expands the work done under BEYOND BAD APPLES (BEYOND).
What is ROSiE?
ROSiE (Responsible Open Science in Europe) is an EU-funded research project (Horizon 2020) whose mission has been to develop practical tools that embed research ethics (RE) and research integrity (RI) into the practice of open science (OS) and citizen science. The project ran from March 2021 to February 2024.
Among its key deliverables is the ROSiE Knowledge Hub: a digital platform designed to gather and present OS resources, training materials, ethical- and integrity-oriented frameworks, and infrastructure guidance.
Why this matters to BEYOND & the research integrity community
The BEYOND project focuses on individual and institutional responsibilities in research misconduct as well as building integrity training and structures. The ROSiE hub offers a natural enhancement by attending specifically to how open science infrastructures and practices present both opportunities and unique ethical/integrity risks.
Some concrete intersections:
- ROSiE’s resources help unpack how open data, open methods, citizen science, and open infrastructures intersect with research integrity.
- For institutions designing integrity frameworks (a BEYOND-theme), ROSiE gives tools and guidelines that reflect open science environments.
- The training materials and guidelines in ROSiE can be adapted or referenced within integrity training modules to ensure open science uses are responsible.
What you’ll find in the ROSiE Knowledge Hub
While the hub itself is best explored via its interface, here are some standout features:
- Thematic sections: Legal aspects of open science, social issues, training in OS, infrastructures, research ethics & integrity in OS.
- Guidance & frameworks: ROSiE’s “General Guidelines on Responsible Open Science” and discipline-specific guidelines.
- Trainings & teaching materials: across natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, health/life sciences for students, early-career researchers, experienced researchers and citizen scientists.
- A “building blocks” interface in the hub, where users can select topics like “Infrastructure”, “Research Integrity”, “Legal”, etc, and drill into relevant resources.
How you might use it
- For research integrity officers & managers: Use the hub to benchmark your policies around open science, and integrate OA/OS risks into your RI frameworks.
- For trainers & educators: Incorporate ROSiE’s training modules (or adapt them) into integrity training curricula, especially in contexts where open science practices are growing.
- For researchers and early career scholars: A self-help source to understand how your open science work interacts with integrity and ethics obligations.
- For policy makers & institutional leaders: The guidelines and policy assessments in ROSiE can inform institutional strategies that link open science with integrity, fairness and inclusion.
In Conclusion
The ROSiE Knowledge Hub is a strong complement to BEYOND’s focus on research misconduct, institutional structures and integrity training. By attending to the open science dimension, it forms a holistic infrastructure perspective that is increasingly relevant in modern research ecosystems. We encourage our community of integrity officers, researchers, trainers and policy makers to explore the hub and to reflect on how you might use its resources to strengthen the integrity side of open science in your own context, all after following link: ROSiE Knowledge Hub
